This project introduces a new 60-ton chilled water plant to provide essential cooling to the existing Butte Detention Center. The chiller was strategically located in the northeast corner of the building within the existing evidence storage area, with circulation pumps housed in the adjacent mechanical room. Piping was routed throughout the facility to feed new cooling coils. The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were designed to meet the facility’s critical nature. The refrigerant systems utilize specialized Type ARC annealed-temper copper tubing to ensure high-pressure integrity and durability within the detention environment.
