Associated Construction Engineering is providing mechanical and electrical engineering services for the new 39,000 square foot Enzi Applied Learning Center, featuring laboratory classrooms, applied learning fabrication spaces, a commons area, an office suite, a 7,000 SF mechanical penthouse with a full crawlspace, and a new parking lot.
The new facility will support hands-on learning and innovation for students and the community in Gillette, Wyoming.
The project’s building systems are designed to support a high-performance academic facility with reliable, efficient, and maintainable infrastructure. HVAC design included central station variable air volume air handling units with heating hot water preheat and DX cooling, served by a high-efficiency natural gas condensing boiler plant and controlled through a DDC building automation system. Plumbing systems included energy-efficient domestic hot water equipment with storage capacity, while specialized academic areas were supported with compressed air infrastructure. Electrical systems included a 480-volt service, emergency generator backup for life-safety and essential loads, LED lighting, and occupancy-based lighting controls. The facility was also fully protected with an automatic fire sprinkler system tied to a digital addressable fire alarm and mass-notification system, providing code-compliant life safety coverage throughout the building.
