Helena Army Aviation Support Facility HVAC and Controls Upgrade project modernizes the mechanical systems serving the approximately 114,000-square-footaviation maintenance and support facility at the Helena Regional Airport. Originally constructed in the late 1990s with later expansions, the facility supports aircraft maintenance hangars, flight operations areas, administrative spaces, and associated support functions for the Montana Army National Guard. The project focuses on replacing aging HVAC equipment and upgrading building automation systems to improve reliability, energy efficiency, and long-term facility operations.
The scope includes replacement of rooftop and indoor air handling units, ventilation and exhaust systems, and variable air volume terminal units, along with upgrades to the building’s direct digital control (DDC) system. Major mechanical improvements include replacement of the hangar expansion boiler plant, pumps, and air-cooled chiller, upgrades to gas-fired radiant heating systems in the hangar, and replacement of compressed air equipment serving maintenance operations. Electrical work includes modifications to the existing 480-volt distribution system and integration of new equipment and controls into the facility’s building automation system.
