The Malta Vehicle Maintenance Shop is a new Army National Guard facility consisting of approximately22,000square feet of new construction and support spaces designed to accommodate vehicle maintenance operations, administrative offices, storage areas, and wash bays. The facility will support the Montana Department of Military Affairs and is designed to meet Army National Guard design requirements, Montana High Performance Building Standards, and current International Codes anticipating LEED Gold Certification.
The building incorporates a variety of specialized mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to support vehicle maintenance activities and provide energy-efficient building operation. Mechanical systems include multiple air handling units with variable air volume zone control, gas-fired high-efficiency condensing boilers for hot water heating, emergency vehicle exhaust ventilation systems with automatic sensing controls, tailpipe exhaust systems for maintenance bays, and gas-fired infrared heaters for large shop areas. Plumbing systems include commercial-grade plumbing fixtures, domestic water booster systems, high-efficiency gas-fired water heaters, oil and sand separation equipment for wash bays, and smart metering to support water efficiency and building monitoring. Electrical systems include a new 480/277V service with surge protection, high-efficiency LED lighting with occupancy and daylight controls, a 33kWsolar array integrated with the buildings electrical distribution system and standby generator systems, and a full addressable fire alarm and communications infrastructure. The facility is Electric Vehicle (EV) ready with provisions for Level 2 EV chargers. These systems were designed in accordance with Army National Guard design guides, UFC standards, and applicable mechanical, plumbing, and electrical codes
